The Challenge & Objective

In an era where artwork is often copied or used without credit – especially with AI training on artists’ work – I wanted to create a project that raises awareness about originality and intellectual property. The goal was to communicate this message playfully and memorably, balancing humor with a deeper reflection on creativity and ownership.

The Audience

Creative professionals, designers, and social media users who encounter copied or uncredited work, as well as a broader audience interested in playful, thought-provoking motion content.

Exploration

I explored character designs that express anger while remaining playful and approachable. I settled on a long, abstract cat, where the exaggerated, downturned mouth emphasizes frustration and the intense gaze engages the viewer directly.

The Outcome

The final concept brings “copycat” to life as an “angry cat” character. Combining illustration, graphic design, kinetic typography, and motion, the work communicates originality in a humorous yet thought-provoking way. The character balances frustration and playful energy, making the concept engaging, memorable, and visually cohesive across multiple touchpoints – keeping the tone engaging rather than heavy. Originally created for “Don’t be a copycat,” the open-ended design allows to go beyond the literal idea of copying. This makes the angry cat to a symbol of our time — full of uncertainty, political tension, and frustration.

How to translate my concept into the world?

To translate the concept to life across different contexts, I developed supporting assets for three awareness touchpoints: printed stickers for public interaction and personal expression; a social media reel combining kinetic typography and motion to explore the “copycat” theme; and a looping GIF sticker. The project also extends into public space through a large-scale projection at the Disseny Hub Barcelona, part of the OFFF Festival Open Call, where my work was selected and will be displayed April 16–18, 2026 – activating the character in an urban environment.
